Catering and Hospitality Trainer –

The Feed and our partners from the community and voluntary sector are looking for people who are highly motivated, compassionate and person-centered to join the Building Better Opportunities programmes; Norfolk Community College Project across Norfolk. The Norfolk Community College project is jointly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund.This high profile project will work with local communities so that adults who are furthest away from the labour market can overcome barriers preventing their involvement in further education, training and employment. This programme aims to make positive contribution to New Anglia LEP’s objective to promote social inclusion and combat poverty. To support delivery of the project we are now recruiting for the following positions,

Catering and Hospitality Trainer

The Feed, Norwich

38h per week. Salary: £18,000 – £20,000 (Fixed term contract until July/August 2019)

The Feed Academy is our training programme for people who have faced homelessness, ex-offenders, people with drug and alcohol misuse histories and people with mental health problems and other major barriers to employment.

We need a full time Trainer to work with The Feed Academy Coordinator. This post is mainly Monday-Friday 9am-5pm but some evening and weekend work will also be required.

You must be able to motivate and inspire our trainees. This will include teaching cookery skills, but also teaching a wide variety of other personal and career development skills.

Job Description –

Overall purpose:

The Feed Academy is our training programme for people who have faced homelessness, ex-offenders, people with drug and alcohol misuse histories and people with mental health problems and other major barriers to employment. We aim to make The Feed a strong and growing training provider, specialising in working with food, hospitality, customer services and personal development. Our training must be fun and motivating.

We need a Trainer to work with The Feed Academy Coordinator. We have a high demand so ideally need someone fulltime, 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work will also be required. We will be opening a new training centre on Prince of Wales Road, Norwich later this year.

You need to be a strong all-round trainer with a background in non-traditional learning environments – you may have a training qualification like PGCE or PTLLS or Education and Learning Award Qualification – or at minimum you will have a track record and ability to plan and deliver interactive and participatory learning and a background of working with diverse groups and using creative learning styles.

You must be able to motivate and inspire our trainees. This will include teaching cookery skills, but also teaching a wide variety of other personal and career development skills. Fundamentally, you will be committed to Norwich becoming a city where everyone can achieve their potential.

 

Principal tasks and activities

 

  • To provide high quality training
  • To help The Feed Academy Coordinator with any administrative tasks
  • To provide support on a 1:1 basis
  • To update trainee records on our computer system In-form
  • To ensure all training is delivered in line with our values and approach, and to help us with developing and improving our training programmes – ensuring they are carefully documented and
  • To run our regular employment advice drop in sessions at Norwich City Council for tenants of LetNCC, promoting tenancy sustainment through employment
  • To create and deliver group workshops such as CV building, conviction disclosures, etc
  • Work with our market stall as a location for training and work experience.
  • Will need to be willing to take level 2 food safety qualification
  • Will need to take part in events organised by The Feed such as fundraiser and stakeholder events from time to time as part of a team effort

 

  • Person specification

  Essential

  • Experience in a training envorinment and ability to plan and deliver interactive and participatory learning and a background of working with diverse groups and using creative learning styles
  • Training experience required. Ability to train subjects including: Basic kitchen skills, Cooking, Baking, Employability skills, Customer services, Personal development
  • You must have delivered training in a training environment.
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with colleagues
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, professional boundaries and safeguarding
  • Willing to work with people who have a support need, including experience of homelessness, ex-offenders, mental health conditions and substance misuse.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to update risk assessments and support plans
  • Experience of 1:1 support
  • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records

  • Able to work to and create lesson plans

         Desirable

  • Training qualification like PGCE or PTLLS or Education and Learning Award Qualification
  • Experience in delivering IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance), around employment, training, education and volunteering

About The Feed

 The Feed is a social enterprise with a mission to work with communities to develop long term solutions to poverty, hunger and homelessness.

We are based in Norwich and previously provided our support services under the name LEAP.

We also run a catering business, a food stall in Norwich market and other social enterprises as a way to create work experience opportunities for our clients.
