Gail’s Story

Gail is currently one of Future Projects many bright trainees working on the Norfolk Community College project, however, this was not always the case.

Previously, as a participant on the Norfolk Community College Project, Gail initially met with Stuart from Voluntary Norfolk who explained to her the project and how the 1-1 program they would be doing together would help her achieve her main goal of getting back into employment.

She was previously unemployed for nineteen years due to many barriers and challenging situations setting her back from obtaining employment while being a single mother of two on minimum benefit pay.

“I struggled a lot ignoring many big problems, denying my mental health, feeling not good enough, affecting me both physically, mentally, and emotionally, in worst possible ways.”

“I believe my years of unemployment had a huge effect on my wellbeing, social life, and daily structure.”

“All the people from the project wanted to help me to succeed and the majority of the advice I was given worked. They cheered me on and I believed in myself that I could do this and I did.”

Gail was eventually given the offer to join Future Projects as an Employment Development Worker trainee on the Norfolk Community College project and has taken on participants of her own to support back into work, training, or education. She also helps man weekly drop-in sessions in Great Yarmouth & Gorleston libraries to assist with online work search and boost job application techniques for participants of the project.

“Since I started back in September, I cannot put into words how much my life has changed. I have grown in confidence and my outlook on life has changed, which has proved beneficial for not just me, but my boys and family.”
